The East Montgomery County Fire Department is pleased to announce the promotions of Fire Captain Wayne Buxton (A Shift) , Fire Captain Howard Rinewalt (B Shift), and Fire Captain Jerod Griffin (C Shift) to Battalion Chief effective January 1, 2016. The new Battalion Chief position is responsible for fire suppression and firefighting personnel of their assigned shift. The Battalion Chief has administrative duties and also assumes the Incident Commander role when responding to emergencies.

“The East County Fire Department is fortunate to have such a dedicated group of Fire Department personnel and I congratulate our new Battalion Chiefs on their promotions. The many years of knowledge and expertise that each new Battalion Chief brings to their new position is sure to be an asset to the department,” praised Fire Chief Jeff Taylor.

On May 9, 2015 an election was held and voters approved the merger of the Splendora Fire Department and New Caney Fire Departments creating East Montgomery County Fire Department under Montgomery County ESD 7. This transition resulted in the expansion of emergency response area to 144 square miles, responding to more than 5,000 emergency responses annually. The creation of the new Battalion Chief position will insure the highest level of protection for our residents, and fire suppression personnel are achieved.
