As Conroe firefighters left the stations they knew they had a working fire. Just after 3am a orange glow could be seen in the sky toward Conroe from FM 1488 and Interstate 45.
As first Conroe units arrived on the scene of a home at 404 Jewel near the intersection of Mill. Flames were leaping out of windows , doors and the roof. It had already spread to the car in the driveway and to the neighbors truck in his driveway. Even with this much fire firefighters braved the flames to begin searching for the victim or victims that were trapped in the home. The initial report to 911 stated people were trapped in the structure.
The trees surrounding the home were also lit up with fire.
They were unable to find anybody and then a neighbor informed firefighters that the owner of the home and his family were out of town for the weekend.
Just about every truck Conroe had assisted in extinguishing the fire. Braving the 82 degree temperature and high humidity.
MCHD remained on the scene in case of an injury or heat exposure.
The home was a total loss.
