A two alarm fire ripped through a doublewide mobile home just after 4pm today on Green Belt Drive. Cut and Shoot Fire Department went on the scene with heavy smoke which turned to heavy fire quickly. A second alarm was called for bringing North Montgomery County and Caney Creek and Splendora Fire Departments. With temperatures over 100 degrees fire fighters battled the stubborn fire which was mainly concentrated in the attic area at first.
The home owner was home asleep when his wife smelled smoke and looked outside to see smoke. When she looked out the back door the back porch was burning. The home owner then went outside and attempted to stop it with a garden hose before one of the water lines melted as the fire climbed up the back wall. According to the Fire Marshal the tentative cause appears to be an extension cord run from the front of the home around to the back, over the porch and to the large above ground swimming pool.
The home suffered extensive damage.
