Shortly after 3 pm, Montgomery Fire Department responded to a reported house fire in the 21000 block of FM 2854. As firefighters were en route to the scene Lake Conroe firefighters who were also assisting spotted the home with flames coming through the roof almost one-half mile off the road on the Elliott Ranch, A booster truck was first in and was able to shut the fire down until additional trucks arrived. One there, a water problem also was encountered. The driveway to muddy to bring heavy tankers in, an option was to lay 5” hose for almost one-half mile. That was all averted when a portable pump was taken to a pond below the house and a fire hose was connected to it to supply the pumper with water.
Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office provided traffic control on FM 2854 as only one lane at a time was able to pass.
The Montgomery County Fire Marshal is investigating. Even though there was lightning in the area at the time, no signs were immediately evident as that being the cause. The fire according t the Assistant Fire Marshal on the scene appeared to have started in the attic area.
The home was heavily damaged.
As firefighters battled that blaze New Caney, Porter, Plum Grove, and Caney Creek Fire Departments fought a blaze in a home on Royal Coach in Peach Creek Forest. In that fire the family escaped the dwelling after a cooking fire set off smoke detectors. When crews arrived the home was totally involved. It was a complete loss.
