fire truck involved in crash

About 1 p.m Saturday a Channelview Volunteer Fire truck running a house fire at Harlem and Short when it was t-boned in the intersection of Thompson Road and the service road of Interstate-10 by a wrecker.  The wrecker driver was flown to Houston’s Hermann Hospital in critical condition. Two passengers including a 10-year-old boy were also injured and transported to a local hospital.

The three firefighters in the truck were uninjured.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office all the emergency equipment on the fire truck was properly working.  The impact was so strong that witnesses said it almost knocked the fire truck on it’s side.

This week has been a week of many crashes involving emergency equipment. In Cumberland, Pennsylvania a fire engine responding to a call  when it struck a civilian SUV in an intersection killing the civilian.

Also Saturday morning an ambulance struck a civilian vehicle which did not yield to emergency equipment. That vehicle was struck killing  it’s driver.
