About 1 am on Sunday morning Caney Creek and Conroe Fire were dispatched to a reported house fire on Melmont Lane in River Plantation Subdivision. Conroe Engine 3 arrived on scene first with heavy fire in the 2-car garage spreading to the house. As Conroe Firefighters attacked the flames in the garage, Caney Creek arrived and went in through the front door to stop the spread of flames from the garage. A second alarm was called for. The Conroe crew then entered the home and went to the second floor to start searching for victims as there were two vehicles in the garage. Seconds later one of the Conroe Firefighters vanished. A MAYDAY was put out and a third alarm was called for. The Conroe FIrefighter had fallen through the second floor to the first floor. He only suffered a minor shoulder injury. The garage was a total loss and the home suffered extensive damage. The Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating. The homeowners were out of town at the time of the fire which was learned later.
