firefighter loses arm on accident scene

Kim HuckabeePinewood firefighter Kimberly Huckabee lost her left arm just after 5:30a.m. Thanksgiving morning as she assisted on the scene of a crude oil tank truck fire. The driver of that truck Terry Dunaway, of Beaumont fell asleep near Sour Lake on SH 105. The driver then ran off the road , and struck two culverts causing the truck to explode. Several other crashes occurred after the first crash. She was assisting directing traffic several miles away on SH-105 at Pinewood cut-off when an 18-wheeler attempted to turn around and backed over her.

The tanker was carrying 6,700 gallons of crude which was allowed to burn off as Sour Lake, Kountze, Bevil Oaks, Nome, China and Lumberton Fire Departments stood by.

Surgeons in Beaumont are  reconnect her fingers on her right hand,. She also suffered severe head trauma.

The crash happened directly in front of a Houston firefighters home. He heard the crash and looking out the window saw the fireball. Grabbing his children they exited the back door to safety. On the way out his wife broke her ankle. 

Huckabee was a medic with Hardin County ESD #5.
