About noon, Porter Fire was dispatched to a grass fire on Village Way off Old Houston Road in East Montgomery County. First units arrived on scene to find heavy fire in a hay pasture spreading to the woods. Fire units were called from Caney Creek Fire and East Montgomery County Fire. The winds then began to pick up, and the fire started moving faster, causing another call for brush trucks from Spring, Conroe, and the Texas Forest Service. Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management also responded to the scene to assist with drones. The fire was brought under control just after 2 pm. Montgomery Coutny is currently under a Disaster Declaration, and there is absolutely no burning allowed. This is also true for the surrounding counties due to the extreme dry conditions.
