FIREFIGHTERS BATTLING GRASS AND WOODS FIRE ACROSS THE COUNTY

DSC02080 At 4:10 this afternoon Caney Creek Fire Department was dispatched to a grass and woods fire at Tower Glen Dr. and Tower Glen Lane.  A resident burning debris let it get away from here setting the woods on fire. It took about thirty minutes to extinguish.

Mean while fire crews across the state are battling wildfires. The latest from the Texas Forest Service is:

Potter County – Rosita Fire – Request for assistance came at 12:30 p.m. An air attack aircraft responded. This fire is 100 percent contained. A camper was damaged.

Haskell County – McClellen Fire – The request for assistance came at 1:10 p.m. Fire size is 100 acres.
Four Texas Forest Service bulldozers have responded to the area near FM 142. An unoccupied home was destroyed and several outbuildings. Five volunteer departments have responded.

Mitchell County – "821" Fire – This fire started in Howard County and burned in to Mitchell County. Texas Forest Service has responded with bulldozers.
The fire is in the general location of the Garrett Ranch. All power in the area is being shut down due to power lines on the ground. Three large oil storage tanks have been destroyed. Due to extreme poor visibility, there have been multiple vehicle accidents. Two homes and one outbuilding have been destroyed. Size is estimated to be 800 acres.

Potter County – Willow Creek South Complex – This is a complex of four fires and estimated at 500 acres. There have been multiple evacuations of recreational vehicles and campers.
Texas Forest service bulldozers were dispatched from Childress when the request came at 1:48 p.m. Many homes have been evacuated.

Tom Green County – Jameson Road Fire – Two homes were immediately threatened. This fire is contained.

Randall County – A request for assistance came at 2:20 p.m. The estimated size is 300 acres and is burning toward the Canyon Country Club. An evacuation of the country club and residences in the area is being conducted. TIFMAS resources have been committed to this fire. Location is near Highway 60.

Howard County – Hill Top Fire – This 30-acre fire has been contained. Four occupied homes were lost. TIFMAS resources were committed to this fire. A request for assistance came at 2:38 p.m.
