North Montgomery County, New Waverly, Needham, and Porter Fire Departments returned Wednesday afternoon from the California Wildfires they were assigned to. Not expected until next week and them missing Thanksgiving had been the plan. However, now they will be able to be with their families for Thanksgiving. After a 2-day drive and fighting holiday traffic NMCFD arrived in Wilis close to 2 p.m. The firefighters were glad to be back and talked about the experience. They said most of what they did was mop-up of hot spots and some public relations, talking with the victims and helping any way they could. One day was spend with Los Angeles firefighters who helped pump out swimming pools of ash. Firefighters said they saw homes that were almost shacks all the way to mansions destroyed by fire. They said it was no comparison to the 2011 fire we had here locally. The most exhausting part was the elevation and the terrain.
