FIRST RESPONDERS ESCORT FALLEN COMRADE TO HOUSTON

Just about every Fire Department and many law enforcement and MCHD personnel lined Airport Drive Friday evening as the body of their fallen comrade was transported from the Montgomery County Forensic Center to Houston. Grant Cherry, 24, of Montgomery was a Montgomery Firefighter. On Thursday afternoon he was enjoying a day of riding his motorcycle through the Sam Houston National Forest on FM 149. Just after he passed Osborne Road and just before FM 1375, he encountered a curve and lost control of the bike. It traveled through a ditch before ejecting him. A fellow firefighter who was riding with him immediately started performing life-saving measures on Cherry. Several motorists also stopped to help. Within minutes his own fellow firefighters who were dispatched to the scene went to work on Cherry along with medics from MCHD who arrived seconds later. They were unable to save Cherry. Funeral arrangements are pending. Please keep the Cherry family and his fellow firefighters in your prayers. RIP GRANT
