FORD PICKUP CRASHES AND BURSTS INTO FLAMES DRIVER CRITICAL TRUCK MELTED

At about 9:15 pm Friday South Montgomery County Fire Department was dispatched to the 2300 block of Old Ox in Spring for a major accident. Moments later other calls started to come in from several blocks down the street reporting a major accident with the vehicle on fire and the victim trapped. Units arrived at a 2015 Ford King Ranch fully involved. Close by were two males, one with critical burns and most of his clothes burned. The other male was also suffering minor burns to his hands. MCHD medics spent over 30 minutes at the scene to stabilize the driver of the vehicle before transporting him in critical condition with major burns to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. The other male whose hands suffered burns was a homeowner who heard the bang and came outside to see the vehicle and the driver on fire. He burned his hands as he pulled the driver to safety. He refused immediate medical attention. DPS investigated the crash and viewed a Ring Camera video from the person who first reported the crash several blocks away. The camera shows the driver of the pickup entering the cul-de-sac at a high rate of speed, then as he turns he goes through one yard, runs over a tree, and goes across Old Ox Drive into another yard. In that yard he runs over the water meter, destroying it, and then slams into a vehicle parked in the driveway at that home. The driver then again crosses the road and goes through yet another yard before speeding off down the street. At that location, he left the roadway to the left and drove over 200 feet through the ditch slamming into a culvert pipe. The vehicle then launched and exploded in a ball of flames. Firefighters had to use foam to extinguish the stubborn fire which was being fueled by gasoline. The impact with the culvert was so great that it shifted the 16-foot wide driveway almost eight inches. A sign was displayed on the side of the truck before it was engulfed read “Homeless Depot”. The truck was registered in Spring but the driver was not the owner. Officials are attempting to determine if it was stolen and not yet reported. South County Wrecker was tasked with removing the vehicle from the scene.
