FORMER MONTGOMERY COUNTY DEPUTY NOW SHERIFF OF HUTCHINSON COUNTY DIES IN CRASH

Sheriff Kirk Coker, 57 of Fritch, Texas was killed Sunday night in a single-vehicle crash just east of Fritch. The crash happened at 11″50pm on Highway 136. Cokers 2017 Tahoe was eastbound when he left the roadway through a field and struck a tree. The vehicle suffered little damage. It is believed he had a medical issue. An autopsy is scheduled in Lubbock today. Coker graduated from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Academy in 1985 where he worked patrol. In 2006 he moved to North Texas and was Police Chief at Fritch. He then decided to run for Sheriff of Hutchinson in 2015 and won the election. Many here in Montgomery County remembered him as “Peanut”.
