Humble Assistant Police Chief Dan Zietek has been promoted to the Humble Police Chief, starting June 3, 2025. He will be replacing Police Chief Ken Theis, who has been with the Humble Police Department since 1983 and as Chief since 2020. Chief Dan Zientek started with the Humble Police Department on June 6th, 2022, and is second in command of the day-to-day operation of the department. Assistant Chief Zientek has been a Texas peace officer since 1991 as a reserve with Montgomery County Constable Pct 5 before accepting a paid position with Harris County Constable Pct 4.  While at Harris County, he was assigned to patrol, DWI task force, and Investigations and was promoted to Sergeant. In 2006, Captain Zientek moved to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, where he started on patrol and quickly moved to the Criminal Investigation Division. In 2008, Dan was selected to be part of the creation of the Major Crimes Unit, focusing on Homicide and serious bodily injury cases. During this time, Dan was deputized by the U.S. Marshal’s Office in 2015 as a part-time Federal task force officer assigned to the FBI Safe Street Task Force, focusing on bank and armed robberies. Dan was promoted through the ranks to Lieutenant over Major Crimes, Persons Crimes, and Crimes against Children investigations before moving to Montgomery County Constable Pct 3 as a Captain. In his captain role, he was third in command of the department and oversaw the day-to-day operation of all divisions, including civil, records, patrol, property and evidence management, criminal investigation division, including crimes against children, and forensic computer crimes division. He was also assigned to the Montgomery County child fatality review team, human trafficking coalition, and Children’s Advocacy Center. Dan served on the Montgomery County Technology Committee to evaluate law enforcement technology for the county. Dan Holds Certifications Through TEEX Forensic Science Academy for Forensic Investigator I and II, Major Crimes Investigator, and Property and Evidence Management. Dan is certified by TCOLE as a Master Peace Officer, Special Investigator, and Instructor. Dan has received over 5000 hours of training in crime scene forensics, criminal investigations, and leadership. Dan attended the FBI National Academy 10-week program at Quantico, VA, in 2017. Dan has completed the trilogy training of the FBI-LEEDA leadership program and has graduated from the Bill Blackwood Leadership Command College, also known as LEMIT (Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas) through Sam Houston State University. While at LEMIT, he published a white paper on accountability in Criminal investigations. Dan holds an associate degree from Lone Star College, a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, and a Master of Science in Criminal Justice Leadership and Management from Sam Houston State University. Dan is enrolled in a Doctorate in Leadership Studies with a concentration in Disaster Preparedness & Emergency Management at Louisiana State University- Shreveport. In 2008, Dan became an adjunct instructor for TEEX Forensic Science Academy, a division of Texas A&M University. Dan assisted in developing Investigative courses, created online investigation courses, and provided feedback on new courses before their launch. Dan currently teaches Criminal Investigations, Death Investigations, and Forensic Photography to crime scene investigators and detectives. Dan has presented at multiple conferences on accountability in criminal investigations using technology, including Excel, Crystal Reports, and RMS systems.​Dan currently serves as 1st Vice President on the Texas Division of the IAI board. Dan served as the President of the Motorola Spillman Flex Texas User group from 2018-2022. Dan is the social media coordinator for the International Association for Identification. Dan is a board member of the Association for Crime Scene Reconstruction and serves on the Texas Association of Property and Evidence Inventory board and the legislative committee. Dan has worked with state representatives on creating new laws and testified before state legislative committees. Dan also serves as the vice president of the North Harris Criminal Justice Association.
After graduating from Humble High School in 1982, Chief Theis began his career in law enforcement as a security officer for SanJac Security, Inc., where he later became the Vice-President of Sales/Operations. It was during that time that he attended and graduated from the University of Houston Criminal Justice Center Police Academy. He was hired by the Humble Police Department as a reserve police officer in 1983 and became a full-time officer in 1987. While in patrol, Chief Theis concentrated on traffic accident investigations and reconstruction. In 1998, he was promoted to Patrol Sergeant, later assigned to the traffic unit, and then as the Red Light Camera Program Administrator. Chief Theis was appointed to Lieutenant in November of 2015; in April of 2016, he was promoted to Captain; in February of 2017, he was promoted to Assistant Chief; and in October of 2020, he was promoted to Chief. Chief Theis is a graduate of the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas at Sam Houston University.
