CONROE- A Montgomery County Grand Jury indicted a former River Plantation resident on 10 counts of promotion of child pornography and reindicted him on 10 counts of the same charge, for a total of 20 counts of promotion of child pornography.
Jeremy Ryan Parten, 29, now a resident of Crockett, in Houston County, was arrested by the Texas Department of Public Safety earlier this year on the first 10 counts. Parten was released on a $200,000 bond.
Houston County Appraisal District records show Parten has considerable real estate assets there.
The case will be tried in Montgomery County because it was his county of residence at the time of the alleged offenses, according to public officials.
The current charges are not Parten’s first brush with the law, according to Public Data, which lists multiple priors.
In March of 2004, Willis Police arrested Parten for “driving while intoxicated, 2nd” which is a Class A misdemeanor. The charge was lowered to the Class B misdemeanor, “driving while intoxicated,” when Parten pleaded guilty and in November 2005, he was sentenced to 180 days in jail (suspended) and nine months probation plus a fine and court costs.
At the same time, Parten was charged with driving while license suspended or invalid. That charge was dismissed.
In November 2004, Parten pleaded guilty to burglary of a habitation and criminal mischief, greater than $1,500 less than $20,000, in Houston County. The charges were combined, and Parten was sentenced to 5 years probation plus a fine and court costs.
Assistant District Attorney Sylvia Yarbrough will prosecute the Montgomery County case.
