Former Sheriffs Gage, Corley and Retired Constable Hill Call for Change at MCSO

MONTGOMERY – Three popular local law enforcement leaders recently issued early and crucial endorsements to Wesley Doolittle’s campaign to unseat incumbent Montgomery County Sheriff Rand Henderson in 2024.

Doolittle, the recently retired Texas Ranger who now serves as a Captain in the Precinct 1 Constable’s Office, will face Henderson in the March 5, 2024 Republican Primary. Doolittle spent more than 22 years with the Texas Department of Public Safety, and 13 of those years as part of the elite and legendary Texas Rangers.

Almost immediately after announcing his run for Montgomery County Sheriff, Doolittle was endorsed by former Sheriff Joe Corley, who served from 1981 until 1993, and former Sheriff Tommy Gage, who served from 2005 until 2017. Gage once endorsed Henderson but is now backing Doolittle.

The two former sheriffs were joined in endorsing Doolittle by retired Precinct 5 Constable David Hill, who served five decades as a law enforcement officer.

“When you think of law enforcement here, these are three of the names that instantly pop into your mind,” said Doolittle, a Montgomery County native whose family has deep roots in the community. “To have the backing of these longtime leaders is an incredible honor. It also underscores the need for new leadership in the Sheriff’s Office.”

The two former sheriffs and retired constable make a compelling case for asking voters to join them in backing Doolittle, a law enforcement professional with extensive experience serving the people of Texas, including the residents of Montgomery County.

“The 2024 Republican Primary is still a ways off, but I wanted to add my voice to the growing chorus of those calling for change,” said Corley. “Wesley still serves Texas and our county as a Captain for our Precinct 1 Constable’s Office and that’s even after a great career as a Texas Ranger. Please join me in backing Wesley and voting for him. Urge all your friends and neighbors to look at his record. When they do, they will know Wesley Doolittle is the best choice for sheriff.”

Gage echoed the call for change.

“I believe Montgomery County is headed in the wrong direction and needs a stronger leader with more experience and a fresh perspective,” Gage said.

“Wesley has my full support in the 2024 Republican Primary and I’m asking all of you who stood with me when I was sheriff to vote for Wesley and support him in every way you can. Wesley is a retired Texas Ranger who has had a long career in law enforcement. He has served the people of Texas with honor and integrity and continues to serve folks in Montgomery County as a Captain with the Precinct 1 Constable’s Office. He will make a great sheriff.”

Hill agreed with his fellow law enforcement leaders. “It was my honor to serve as your longtime Precinct 5 Constable and to serve 50 years as a law enforcement officer,” Hill said. “It’s easy for me to see Wesley Doolittle is the best choice – the only choice – to serve as the next Montgomery County Sheriff. This is a lawman with a servant’s heart and is the leader we need at the Sheriff’s Office. He’s a man of integrity who will protect every inch of our county.”

More law enforcement support from around Montgomery County and Texas is pouring in for Doolittle every day. But, the candidate added, he can’t think of a better way to kick off his bid to be the next Montgomery County Sheriff than with the support of Corley, Gage, and Hill.

“Voters know and trust these leaders,” Doolittle said. “To have their support and endorsements while we’re almost a year out from the 2024 primary sends a clear signal: Change is needed at the Sheriff’s Office. The men and women who protect us deserve a leadership upgrade, as do the families throughout Montgomery County who count on law enforcement in a dangerous world.”
