Fun for the Whole Family this Weekend: Magnolia to Host Hometown Christmas

On Saturday, December 1, Magnolia will host its annual Hometown Christmas in Unity Park.  The fun-filled day is a partnership between the City of Magnolia, Greater Magnolia Parkway Chamber of Commerce, and Commissioner Charlie Riley.

The collaborative event kicks of at Unity Park at 1 p.m. with Commissioner Riley’s Family Fun Day.  At the Family Fun Day, kids can enjoy the following free activities: train rides, face painting, pictures with santa, balloon art, bounce houses, and much more.  All kids’ activities are free, provided by Commissioner Charlie Riley to the community. There will also be a Christmas Market filled with goodies from local vendors featuring items such as wreaths, quilts, military memorabilia, wooden creations, high school spirit gear, and much more.  The two Magnolia High Schools will be on site to sell food and snacks, with all proceeds benefiting the FFA Booster Clubs. The Family Fun Day ends at 4.

At 5:30, the Chamber follows the event with their annual “Magic of Christmas” Parade of Lights, which will be presented on Unity Park Drive and Nichols Sawmill Rd.  Regarding the parade, Sandy Barton, Chamber President, stated that “We are excited to partner with Commissioner Riley, The City of Magnolia, Magnolia ISD, and Society of Samaritans to present this great community event. The 2018 Magic of Christmas Parade of Lights features former Constable David Hill as Grand Marshall and current Constable Chris Jones as lead Parade Sponsor. We thank all of this year’s sponsors and volunteers – without whose support this event wouldn’t be possible. The Parade will be the biggest in our history featuring plenty of marching bands, floats, choral groups and, of course, Santa!”

Immediately following the Parade, the City of Magnolia will host the annual Lighting of the Christmas Tree in Unity Park, along with complimentary hot cocoa and cheery Christmas Carols.   Tana Ross, City of Magnolia Coordinator, sends a warm welcome for all to attend: “This is a true hometown event and it is a growing event. This year, with the inclusion of Commissioner Riley’s Family Fun Day, there is something to enjoy the Spirit of Christmas all day long.  Also, we cannot thank Magnolia ISD, enough, for their Christmas Choir. I hope everyone will join us for Hometown Christmas in Unity Park. ”
