Around 10:30 a.m. Thursday, The Woodlands Fire Department Engine 104 and Hazmat 102 were dispatched to Buckalew Elementary School, located at 4909 Alden Bridge Drive, after contractors working near the campus accidentally struck a gas line.
Upon arrival, crews found that school staff had begun evacuating students and personnel as a precaution. Hazmat Technicians, working in coordination with CenterPoint Energy, were able to clamp the damaged line and secure the leak without incident.
Once the gas was shut off, Hazmat personnel monitored the building and confirmed no hazardous readings were present. Students and staff were then allowed to safely return to the school.
No injuries were reported.
