Waller County, TX- Governor Greg Abbott will appoint Sean Whittmore to succeed Elton Mathis as Criminal District Attorney for Waller County. Sean is an experienced attorney with over 10 years of experience as a felony prosecutor as well as nearly 5 years of experience as a criminal defense attorney. He has served the citizens of Waller County for over six years, prosecuting serious felony cases, advising local law enforcement, and supervising the felony and misdemeanor prosecutors in the District Attorney’s Office. In that time, he has earned the trust and respect of local law enforcement, leaders, juries, and the judges of Waller County. In his time as a felony prosecutor, he has never lost a jury trial and has obtained several hundred years in prison sentences for the criminals he has prosecuted.
Sean is a married father of two smart and beautiful daughters, a life-long Republican raised in Texas, and a graduate of Texas A&M University with a bachelor’s degree in History. After graduating from Texas A&M, Sean attended Washburn University School of Law on an academic scholarship, where he met Maureen, his wife of eleven years. Maureen Whittmore is a prosecutor with the Special Prosecution Unit of Texas who has dedicated her career to protecting Texans from sexually violent predators.
In addition to Waller County, Sean has served as a felony prosecutor with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s office and the Texas Attorney General’s Office under Ken Paxton. He has also run his own successful small criminal defense firm.
During Sean’s time as a prosecutor, he has supervised and trained a dozen junior prosecutors, successfully defended numerous convictions on appeal, tried dozens of felony and misdemeanor cases, successfully negotiated hundreds of plea agreements, trained judges on no refusal programs, given numerous presentations on changes in open carry laws to Waller County citizens, and assisted in dozens of law enforcement investigations.
With crime rising in Houston and Harris County, it is now more important than ever before that the justice system in Waller County has the steady hand of an experienced conservative prosecutor to work hand in hand with our local law enforcement to keep the people of Waller County safe.
Sean said, “I’m honored to accept Governor Abbot’s appointment to serve as your District Attorney, I will continue to work tirelessly and put my experience, knowledge, and judgment to the task of protecting Waller County from the rising tide of crime. We will send a message to criminals that if they won’t obey our laws, they better not break them in Waller County. Unlike some counties, we’re not afraid to stand up to criminals.”
Sean’s appointed term will run until the general election in November. He will first stand in the Republican Primary Election on March 5, 2024 before continuing to the general election in November.
