GRANGERLAND FIREFIGHTER KILLED IN CAR CRASH

Approximately 5:a.m. this morning Jody Lynn Bell, age 22 of Conroe was killed in a single vehicle accident in Goodrich, Texas. Jody was also a Volunteer Firefighter with Caney Creek Volunteer Fire Department.

According to DPS Bell was southbound on US 59 in Goodrich when his truck left the roadway, ran into a guardrail, continued down an embankment hit a state sign and finally crashed into a large steel post supporting an overhead commercial billboard. He was killed on impact.  The Livingston Volunteer Fire was dispatched to the scene along with Polk County Deputy Billy Duke and DPS Troopers Flowers and Sergeant Bowen. The collision was so intense that the frame bent at 90 degrees. Also the massive pole that supported the billboard was crushed almost half its diameter.
