A man has been sentenced to 20 total years in prison in for aggravated assault and escaping custody. The Grimes County District Attorney’s Office says 52-year-old Albino Hernandez Guerrero pled guilty to Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Escape on Wednesday. The Sheriff’s Office originally responded to an assault call on July 23, 2021. Investigators determined Guerrero attacked a man with a knife. The victim, who was previously in a relationship with Guerrero, sustained a deep laceration which required hospitalization. The D.A.’s Office says as a result of this incident, Guerrero was arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a second-degree felony, and was booked into the Grimes County Jail. Later, at approximately 1:20 p.m. on September 13, 2023, Guerrero was working as a trusty in the Grimes County Jail. While awaiting trial on his aggravated assault case, he walked out of the jail sallyport and fled on foot. The D.A.’s Office says a multi-agency manhunt ensued for the escaped prisoner, which included TDCJ dog teams. Guerrero was spotted by local citizens, who called law enforcement. He was captured and taken back into custody around dusk the same day. Guerrero was charged with Escape, which is a third-degree felony.
