At 10pm Friday night Harris County Precinct One Constables office on North Shepherd was wall to wall with officers from Harris County Precinct 1, Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Harris County District Attorney’s Office and DPS. Within 30 minutes all those officers were on the streets looking for intoxicated drivers. It wasn’t long until the first one was found just blocks from her home. She was so impaired that as they brought her through the office she began to sing and continued to sing.
The office was prepared as Constable Al Rosen said, “a one stop shop for impaired drivers.” Not only did they have holding cells until the prisoners were transported to Harris County Sheriff’s Jail but deputies were able to do breath tests, bookings and for those who refused the breath test, the Harris County District Attorney prosecutors were able to draft a search warrant for a blood draw and forward it to a judge for his signature. A nurse was on hand to draw blood right there in the office.
The program sponsored by Constable Al Rosen and MADD lasts through Monday and covers all of Harris County including the City of Houston.
Rosen’s message,”don’t drive impaired and have a designated driver.”
From 10pm to 6am officers arrested 36 persons for DWI and 6 for outstanding warrants.
