HEAD-ON CRASH CLOSES CROCKET MARTIN FOR HOURS

Just after 1:30pm Tuesday Caney Creek Fire was dispatched to a reported head-on crash with critical injuries on Crockett Martin Road near White Rock. Units arrived to find a Ford F-350 with heavy driver-side damage and a Nissan Titan with heavy passenger-side damage. The male driver in the Ford and his female passenger suffered minor injuries. The driver of the Nissan was transported to the hospital in serious condition. However, the passenger of the Nissan was very critical. Firefighters found him partially pinned in with both legs partially amputated just above the foot. Crews worked on the scene to stabilize the 57-year-old male. He was transported to HCA Conroe in critical condition. Firefighters also found a dog on the floorboard of the back seat. Animal Control immediately responded but the dog did not survive. Crockett Martin was closed until close to 4:30pm as DPS investigators worked the crash. According to a resident who was working in his yard, the Nissan was traveling north on Crockett Martin at a high rate of speed. When the driver came into the curve just north of White Rock he ran off the roadway along the ditch and then appeared to have overcorrected and slammed into the Ford F-350, spinning the Nissan. Many motorists sat for hours waiting on the scene to clear instead of electing to re-route. The speed limit on Crockett Martin south of the tracks is 50 mph.
