HEAVY STORMS POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON

FROM NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE
Periods of showers and thunderstorms will continue to affect Southeast Texas through Tuesday night, with thunderstorms on Tuesday capable of locally heavy rain, gusty winds, and an isolated tornado. Dry conditions will settle in mid-week behind this system with much colder temperatures expected to reach the region around Christmas.

Sea fog will also impact marine and immediate coastal areas through Tuesday night and again Thursday and Friday, resulting in visibilities below 1 nautical mile at times.

Overview: Tuesday
Two rounds of active weather are anticipated on Tuesday, the first occurring during the day as bands of showers and thunderstorms set up north of a Columbus to Livingston line. This activity may repeatedly move across the same area over a period of a few hours, allowing rain totals to pile up into the 1-3 inch range. Recent drought conditions are expected to minimize widespread flooding concerns, but minor or street flooding may be possible in areas that see repeated shower or thunderstorm activity.

The second round looks to occur during the afternoon and evening hours on Tuesday (roughly 4 PM – 12 AM), as a broken line of thunderstorms moves across the region from northwest to southeast. Thunderstorms within this line may be capable of gusty winds and an isolated tornado. Should this line hold together to the Gulf waters, gusty winds and isolated waterspouts will also be possible. Once this line clears the coast Tuesday night/early Wednesday morning, dry conditions are expected with sea fog clearing.

Overview: Christmas
Much below normal temperatures are forecast to settle into the region around Christmas (sometime in the December 25-26 timeframe), with the potential for widespread below freezing temperatures increasing. At this time, the chances for any winter weather to occur when these below freezing temperatures occur appears very low.
