Help Judge Metts & Constable Hayden Help Kids!

schoolThe time has come for Montgomery County Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace James Metts and Constable Rowdy Hayden’s 5th annual School Supply Drive benefiting elementary school students in East Montgomery County whose families are struggling to provide the required supplies.

To kick off the drive, Judge Metts and Constable Hayden will be on hand Monday, July 30, from 1 to 3 p.m., at the Precinct 4 Courthouse Annex. Staff members will serve cotton candy, snow cones, and popcorn to those who contribute. Everyone is invited, and photos will be taken of donors (who are not camera shy) with the Judge and Constable and posted on their Facebook pages. Monetary donations will also be accepted in the form of cash or checks made out to James Metts. All donors will be recognized at the conclusion of the drive.

Judge Metts says the school supply drive always serves as proof of what can be accomplished when everyone contributes whatever they can spare.

“Every year I’m touched to see how many people reach out to help these students, even if they don’t know or have any school age children in their families,” he said. “With the current economy, there are many families who cannot afford school supplies and would have to do without necessities to pay for them if it weren’t for the generosity of others.”

“We always have elderly people, people on fixed incomes and others who are struggling to make ends meet donate to the drive,” Metts said. “Even if it’s only $5, it all adds up and every little bit helps.”

Constable Hayden said he was glad to be a part of the drive again this year.

“Times are hard for a lot of families right now, and this is something we can all do to help ease their financial burden,” Hayden said. “I have children and my wife and I have been fortunate enough to be able to provide for them, but not everyone has been blessed in that way, so we want to do whatever we can to help give them what they need for a brighter future.”

Donations in any amount are welcome and can be dropped off at the Precinct 4 Courthouse (Judge Metts’ office) Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. They will be accepted from now through early September, when the supplies will be delivered using Constable Hayden’s Tactical van to the seven elementary schools in Precinct 4, which includes Splendora and New Caney Independent School Districts, along with a portion of Conroe I.S.D.
