Late this afternoon two burglars were witnessed by a property owner stealing equipment near Jackson Road and FM 149. The home owner followed the pair down an oilfield road but lost them as they towed a trailer loaded with an engine and transmission from a piece of heavy equipment. Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and after an extensive search in the wooded area found the trailer which had been reported stolen and the parts which weighed several thousand pounds dumped off. Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded with their helicopter and searched most of the afternoon for the suspects. The truck which had been pulling the trailer was found crashed deep in the woods. With deputies now aware the suspects were on foot MCSO responded with a K-9 unit. In addition Texas Department of Criminal Justice dogs were called. Just before dark the 27-year-old owner of the truck was found by dogs and taken into custody. MCHD responded to the scene after he complained of chest pains. He was then transported to Conroe Regional with a deputy to secure him. The second suspect is still in the woods. K-9 and TDCJ tracking dogs are still searching. If anyone in the search area has loose dogs they are requested to secure them. There is no description on the male as he was only seen briefly by the witness, however after 5 hour in the woods and rain he should be easily identified.
