His True Handicap May Have Been Overestimating His Own Strength

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX- Shenandoah Police responded to a theft in progress call at the PGA Tour Superstore in the Portofino Shopping Center. They confronted the suspect, who allegedly fled with stolen golf clubs… but soon realized they were too heavy for running accessories. They say the suspect dropped the clubs before continuing to run. Alas, he didn’t get far (This is where SHPD says “he ran out of drivers” which was, apparently, a golf pun…) Shenandoah Officers quickly caught the suspect and arrested him.

The suspect was identified as 48-year-old Roberto Rodriguez, of Houston. He’s charged with state jail felony Theft, more than $2,500 but less than $30,000 and class A misdemeanor Evading Arrest / Detention. Rodriguez also had an open Blue Warrant for a felony parole violation. He remains held without bond in the Montgomery County Jail in Conroe.

While this type of crime has seldom been reported in the news, Shenandoah PD Detective Thompson says it isn’t as unusual as people may think. Thompson said expensive clubs are typically stolen for reselling, and not for use by the thieves.
