As a result of the federal government shutdown, Houston Airports encourages all passengers to arrive early and allow extra time for security screening at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) until the shutdown is over.
On Tuesday, Nov. 4, TSA wait times at IAH may exceed 60 to 75 minutes.
On Tuesday, Nov. 4, TSA wait times at HOU may exceed 30 minutes.
At Bush Airport, only TSA checkpoints at Terminals A and E are open for passenger screening. TSA PreCheck and CLEAR are available at both terminals.
At Hobby Airport, fewer screening lanes are open; TSA PreCheck and CLEAR remain available.
Flying United? United Airlines advises passengers to check luggage at Terminal C and then proceed to Terminal E for security screening by walking or taking the Subway. United passengers cannot check in at Terminal A, as the airline does not operate a ticketing counter there.
IAH Tip: The Subway connects all five terminals at IAH, allowing passengers to reach available checkpoints from any terminal. On average, it’s a 6 minute walk between Terminals C and E. After screening, the Skyway connects passengers to their departure gates.
For Context: While a TSA security lane is operating at Terminal C, it is reserved for passengers with mobility needs who are checking in at that terminal. Because of the government shutdown, Terminal C screening cannot accommodate high volumes.
“We sincerely thank our passengers for their patience and flexibility. The federal government shutdown has impacted TSA staffing and operations nationwide. Houston Airports is doing everything possible to support our TSA partners,” said Jim Szczesniak, director of aviation for Houston Airports. “Our employees immediately stepped up to assist passengers, providing calm and direction in a challenging situation. We’re incredibly proud of their commitment to service and teamwork. We ask that passengers continue to arrive early and expect extended security wait times until the federal government shutdown is resolved.”
