From the Pct. 4 Constable’s Office of Kenneth “Rowdy” Hayden:
On January 6, 2024, an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon occurred at a job site in Porter. The incident involved 41-year-old Karl Steven Dixon, a Houston resident, during an attempted theft of a high-value underground locator.
This case initially began when one of our Deputies, working the Safe Shopper Initiative, funded by the East Montgomery County Improvement District (EMCID), took a call at the local Home Depot regarding a burglary of a motor vehicle. During this incident, a suspect stole a piece of underground survey equipment. The company later contacted the Pct. 4 Detective when the same suspect committed an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon by attempting to run over an employee while stealing another piece of similar equipment.
Dixon attempted to steal a DigiTrak F2 underground locator, a specialized device valued between $25,000 and $35,000, commonly used in fiber optic cable installation and underground drilling. Dixon fled immediately following the incident and was later identified as the primary suspect in this case and a series of similar high-value thefts in the area.
Following the incident, the Montgomery County Constable’s Office Precinct 4 Criminal Investigations Division (CID) continued their investigation with assistance from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office who also took theft reports of the same underground locators with the same suspect.
On January 9, 2025, with assistance from the Harris County Constable’s Office Precinct 5 and the Houston Police Department, CID Detectives successfully located and apprehended Dixon in Houston without incident. He has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Dixon is also facing felony theft charges of approximately $500,000 worth of underground locators in East Montgomery County and other parts of Montgomery County. Further investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are coming.
The successful arrest of Karl Steven Dixon shows the dedication and teamwork of local law enforcement agencies in addressing violent crimes and criminals while safeguarding the community. The Montgomery County Constable’s Office Precinct 4 remains committed to pursuing justice and ensuring public safety. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
