HOUSTON OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING

Houston police say an officer shot a suspect this morning after a disturbance call in southeast Houston.
The officer responded to a disturbance call on Chennault near Jutland just before 1:30am.
Police say a 21-year-old man was outside on Chennault Drive shooting into a house.
Officers say the man was cooperative at first, but then for some reason, had what police say was “a change of heart.”
Investigators say he reached towards his waistband so the officer pulled out his gun and shot at the man, hitting him at least once.
At this point, we don’t know why he was outside with a gun in the first place.
HPD spokesperson Jodi Silva said, “The initial reports we got was that the suspect was described as a black male wearing a red shirt and shorts. As the officers approached, the suspect had taken his shirt off and wrapped it around his face. And so the officers approached with caution. However, they did see the suspect attempt to conceal the weapon and when he initially complied and had a change of heart, that’s when the officers feared for their safety.”
The man was taken to the Memorial Hermann Hospital. He underwent surgery this morning, but there’s no word yet on his condition.
No officers were hurt during this incident.

His mother who lived in the house possibly at which he was shooting was transported by HPD to Hermann Hospital to see her son.
