HUNTSVILLE, TX- In the early hours of Friday, Huntsville Police responded to a call at the Bill Fick Ford on I-45, where thieves were blatantly stealing taillights from trucks in the lot of the closed dealership. The suspects fled in their vehicle and allegedly aimed that vehicle at officers who were already outside of their vehicle, driving toward the officers. The statement released by HPD says “An officer engaged the subjects” which presumably refers to when shots were fired, since their statement was titled “Officer-Involved Shooting”. The pursuit continued as the suspects reached the I-45 southbound service road and then entered Huntsville State Park. The suspects soon, for reasons unclear at this point, left the vehicle and fled on foot into the woods. The passenger was quickly caught, but the driver got away. Montgomery County and TDCJ responded to assist in the search with K-9 units, but they were unable to find the driver.
His description is below, along with additional details in the text of the actual media release. However, some information wasn’t available as of this posting. When HPD provides more information and hopeful word of another arrest or a wanted suspect photo, MCPR will provide that information.
OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING
On September 27, 2024, at 2:27 AM officers responded to a report of suspicious activity at the Bill Fick Ford dealership. When they arrived, they found two subjects stealing the taillights off trucks in the lot. The subjects fled to their vehicle and as officers attempted to detain them, they steered the car toward the officers who were on foot. An officer engaged the subjects who then fled SB on the feeder road. They entered the Huntsville State Park and ultimately fled from their vehicle on foot into the woods. The passenger was quickly apprehended, but the driver fled into the woods. Tracking dogs from Montgomery County and TDCJ were summoned to the scene but did not locate the driver.
Officers are currently still in the area attempting to locate him. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black shorts. The subject also possibly has a tattoo underneath the outside of his right eye. There is no indication that the subjects were armed, and we do not believe there is any continuing threat to the community. We appreciate the outpouring of support and the continued prayers for the officers who were involved.
