Huntsville police are investigating a homicide after discovering the body of a teenage girl.
Police responded to a suspicious incident call Monday afternoon in the Tanglewood Mobile home subdivision off Highway 75 not far south of the Sam Houston University campus.
“We were all back there talking about it, because this could have happened to us,” Mary Williams said. “It was right in my back door and right at the side of the other neighbors. So, ya know, it’s just… it’s really bad.”
For Mary Williams and her neighbors, their Labor Day weekend ends on a somber note.
“I don’t see why anyone would want to do that,” Williams said. “Because I’m telling you this was a very nice girl.”
Police are investigating the death of a teenage girl Monday on a quiet Huntsville street.
“[She] didn’t bother anybody,” Williams said. “Didn’t cause [any] problems, to be a young lady, no cars in and out, nothing like that. So it’s just bad this had to happen to her.”
“We received a suspicious incident call,” Huntsville Police Lieutenant Curt Landrum said. “[We] came over to investigate and determined that a homicide had happened, so right now we’re in the middle of that investigation.”
Neighbors gathered in the street, with eyes fixed to the mobile home where the victim’s body was found.
“We have several witnesses,” Lt. Landrum said. “Not necessarily of the incident itself but several witnesses we’re talking to and interviewing — but at this point in time no we don’t have anybody any specific suspects.”
Now the neighbors of this neighborhood are coping with a loss.
“We’ve been like friends and neighbors and stuff,” WIlliams said. “So it’s really kind of hit me hard.”
And coming to terms with a horrific crime that happened right next door.
“Ya know I have never seen policemen cry,” Williams said. “But there were three of them that I saw tears coming down… Ya know, it kinda like touched home for him.”
The body is being sent to Dallas for an autopsy. Huntsville Police are still investigating the cause of the incident.
