Just after 4:30 am Sunday North Montgomery County Fire was responding to an accident on I-45 southbound near Shepherd Hill. The first truck was almost on the scene. The second truck was northbound just before the Calvary Road exit when the crew spotted a crashed Ford Escape on the opposite side of the K-Wall with severe damage. Firefighters quickly determined a female in her 60s was trapped in the driver’s seat. After removing the roof and doors they were able to remove her at which time MCHD Medics determined she was deceased. Willis Police responded to the scene along with DPS. DPS Troopers were able to find where the female left the roadway close to 300 feet back. She traveled in the ditch until reaching the concrete pillar supporting the Calvary Road exit sign which her car slammed into. Troopers believe she may have had a medical episode. They were unable to determine the exact time of the crash which may have taken place hours earlier. Where the car was positioned, with no lighting and being dark in color it was very hard to spot. The K-wall was also partially hiding it. The fire crew was able to spot it as they were higher up than a normal vehicle would be within the line of sight. The female was transported to the Montgomery County Forensic Center by Eickenhorst Funeral Directors. Milstead Wrecker towed the vehicle. The scene cleared just after 10 am. IF ANYONE MAY HAVE WITNESSED THE CRASH OR SEEN THE VEHICLE YOU ARE ASKED TO CALL WILLIS POLICE OR DPS CONROE OFFICE.
