On Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at approximately 5:40 pm, Rene Torres was operating a blue 2007 Suzuki GSX R750 and was traveling northbound on the 23100 block of North Freeway in the H.O.V lane. Emma Baron was operating a gray 2017 Toyota Corolla and was northbound in the H.O.V lane, in front of Mr. Torres. Maci Nelson was operating a black 2017 Jeep Cherokee and was traveling northbound in the number one lane of North Freeway, just ahead of Ms. Baron. Mr. Torres failed to control speed and struck the Toyota’s back right corner with the front of the Suzuki. The impact caused Mr. Torres to travel into the number one lane where he struck the Jeep’s back left corner with the front of the Suzuki. Mr. Torres became separated from the Suzuki and came to rest in the H.O.V lane. Harris County ESD 11 Medic #422 arrived on scene and found Mr. Torres with no signs of life at 6:02pm. Ms. Baron and Ms. Nelson were not injured in the crash. Ms. Baron and Ms. Nelson remained on scene and are cooperating with the investigation. This case remains open and is being investigated by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division.
