ICE CHEST CAUSES CRASH

At 3:15p.m. MCHD and New Caney Fire Department was dispatched to a rollove accident on SH 242 about a mile east of Firetower Road.

When they arrived they found a Ford Explorer upside down in the middle of the road. Two people and a baby were out of the vehicle and seemed uninjured. However Crystal Kelly who was the front seat passenger had severe arm trauma from the crash. She was transported by Air Medical to Hermann Hospital in Houston.

According to DPS, Michael Davis, 51, of the Woodlands was eastbound on SH 242 pulling a flat bottom boat with his Ford Explorer. As he passed Firetower an ice chest blew out of the boat and into the roadway. The driver of the Explorer that was behind Davis was Shelby Harvey of Cleveland. She attempted to swerve and avoid hitting the ice chest. Her speed according to witnesses was posted speeds or less. The abrupt correction caused the Explorer to flip and start sliding down the road on it’s roof. A 3-month-old baby was in her child seat and was uninjured also a 16-year-old female passenger was uninjured.

Davis, who was cited for having an unsecured load realized what happened and immediately pulled over and rendered assistance until help arrived.

SH 242 was closed for almost two hours as the crash was cleared.

Robert’s Towing towed the vehicle to the storage lot.
