ILLEGAL DUMPING SUSPECT CRITICAL AFTER HE CRASHES LEAVING THE SCENE

On Sunday evening a retired Montgomery County deputy was returning to his home off Old Houston Road. That is when he saw a slow rolling black Chevrolet pickup loaded with old couches approaching Old Houston Road from Old Sam Road. After seeing several vehicles over the past few days illegally dumping, even with a free county dump site not far away at FM 1314 and SH 242, he decided to see what this driver was going to do. The retired deputy turned down Old Sam and stopped a little way down then turned around. He had seen the truck go north on Old Houston, and after a short time thought the truck continued on. The retired deputy returned to Old Houston Road just in time to see the same truck pull onto Old Houston from an old oilfield road just 100-yards north of Old Sam but without the couches. That’s when the driver of the pickup spotted the retired deputy copying down the license number of his truck. The illegal dumper took off at a high rate of speed south on Old Houston Road toward Village Way. As the driver approached Village Way there were vehicles in the intersection going both directions. The illegal dumper ran the stop sign and fled down Old Houston forcing one of those vehicles almost into the ditch. He disappeared from site as the deputy stopped to check on the driver in the intersection. The deputy then continued toward his home. As he came into the curves on Old Houston He spotted the same Chevrolet truck crashed into a tree. The driver was trapped and bleeding badly. Porter Fire Department responded to the scene to cut the critically injured driver from the vehicle. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition with a broken leg, ribs and a severely lacerated aorta. The driver remains in critical condition. In the bed of the truck was one of the cushions from the couches dumped.
