Just before 7 pm, Tracy Myers of Conroe was driving his Nissan pickup at an extremely high rate of speed northbound on Rose Road from FM 1484. As he rounded the corner he began to slide. After nearly 100 yards of skid, he struck Shawn Wells, 34, of Willis in his 1998 Ford pickup. The impact was so tremendous that it pushed the Ford backward and spun it within ten feet of the front door of a mobile home.
Myers truck continued about another 100 feet where it came to rest upside down.
North Montgomery County Fire Department was dispatched along with MCHD. When they arrived on the scene they found both vehicles with heavy damage even though it had been called in as a single-vehicle accident.
Crews worked on Shawn who was in critical condition. A second ambulance was called for Sonya Wells, Shawn Wells wife of over fifteen years. Just before the second ambulance arrived Shawn went into traumatic arrest and was not able to be revived. His wife was transported to Conroe Regional Hospital in stable condition.
Tracy Myers was also transported to Conroe Regional Hospital in stable condition.
The Montgomery County District attorney’s vehicular crimes unit also responded. A warrant was drawn up for Myers blood at the hospital. Charges of Intoxicated Manslaughter are pending on Myers.
This was not Sonya’s first brush with an intoxicated driver either. Several years ago she was struck by an intoxicated driver. The Hispanic male had no driver’s license or insurance.
Shawn Wells leaves behind two teenage children.
