At 4:31am this morning Conroe Police got a report of an alarm at Wilkin’s Jewelry located at 1712 N. Frazier. The shopping center is at the intersection of North Frazier and Wilson Road.
At 4:33am Conroe Police arrived and moments later Mitch Wilkin’s the owner and his mother and father arrived.
What they found they were not able to believe. The front glass door had been broken out. Inside the heavy glass tops of the three of the cases were broken out. Much of the jewelry, a lot of it antique jewelry was gone. Also gone were several watches valued from $175 to almost $1000. What wasn’t taken was damaged or scratched. Small pieces of jewelry were mixed in with broken glass. Beautiful wooden boxes which hold the individual watches were scratched and broken.
Conroe Police immediately started searching the area. They were not able to locate any suspects but they did find a trail of sort down Wilson Road toward the freeway made up of jewelry and watch boxes.
As Mitch Wilkin’s removed large pieces of glass from the cases his father, using a small brush removed what little jewelry there was left. He brushed each itm off and at times would help his son with removing the glass. At the same time his mother spent her time sweeping glass off the front sidewalk and just inside the front door of the store.
Wilkin’s Jewelry started out in Conroe in 1977 and have been at their present location many years. Their watches, mostly Swiss made are all identified with the Wilkin’s and Company name on the face.
Mitch Wilkin’s said they do handle customers jewelry but that remains in a very large secure safe and was not involved in this mornings burglary.
