Judge Doyal earns county law enforcement association support

County Judge Craig Doyal said he is proud to have the support of the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Association in the upcoming March 6 primary election. Early voting starts Feb. 20.

“I have been a consistent supporter of law enforcement and believe one of my main duties is to ensure that our law enforcement officers have the resources they need to keep our communities safe,” Judge Doyal said.

“I also believe it is our duty to ensure our law enforcement officers can retire with sufficient financial security in recognition of their service to our communities.” Judge Doyal pointed to the fact that the county managed its finances so that it could deliver a 20 percent homestead exemption to taxpayers while still adding an additional 53 positions this year for law enforcement.

In its statement regarding the endorsement, MCLEA cited Judge Doyal’s support for its law enforcement members, according to a release on the organization’s Web site..

Also cited was Judge Doyal’s support for returning the county’s STEP plan – a salary and raise schedule – to its original structure, and the judge’s commitment to preserving the current retirement plan.

MCLEA noted the judge’s opponent has suggested a willingness to consider cuts to the plan.

“Mr. Doyal has stated that he would not consider decreasing the county’s contribution to our retirement. This is a stark contrast to his opponent, Mr. Mark Keough, who has not only expressed his willingness to do so, but also has indicated that we should simply be grateful to be public servants,” according to the MCLEA statement.

Early voting is Tuesday, February 20 through Friday, March 2. Election Day is Tuesday, March 6. Visit www.mctx.org/election/ for more voting information
