A Grimes County judge ruled the Texas Renaissance Festival must be sold after a legal battle. In 2023, a legal battle started with a group of prospective buyers, RW Lands, Texas Stargate, and Royal Campgrounds. The suit was filed against Ren Fest after founder George Coulam (King George) agreed to sell the Festival and adjacent properties for $60 million. After the buyers paid closing costs and a down payment, King George changed his mind. The judge sided with the buyers and awarded the buyers an additional $22 million in damages. New owners plan to keep the tradition alive.
