Washington, DC — Today the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the 3 lethal injection drug cocktail that Texas and many other states use. U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady (R-Texas) issued the following statement on behalf of Texas’ humane methods.
“Lethal injection has long been the most humane execution method and there is strong support in Texas for continuing its use. Texas must continue to put justice for the victims and public safety first.”
BACKGROUND: The Supreme Court ruled that the death-row inmates did not establish the merits of their claim that using midazolam — a sedative that renders a death row inmate unconscious before two other drugs paralyze the inmate and stop the heart — violates the Eighth Amendment prohibition on cruel and unusual punishment.
