KINGWOOD RESIDENTS LINE THE STREET IN MEMORY OF MARINE

Saturday was a somber day in Houston for families and friends of two local soldiers who were killed in separate incidents earlier this month in Afghanistan.

In Kingwood, people came out of their houses and lined the sidewalks for a memorial held in remembrance of Brandon Bury, a kid that grew up down the street.

Bury was a Kingwood High graduate who became a Marine. He’d volunteered to return to Afghanistan for a third tour to train Afghan police. In a convoy in southwestern Afghanistan, Bury’s vehicle crashed and he was killed.

Bury became the third Kingwood native to die serving in Afghanistan or Iraq.

Lucy Bean was one resident who felt it was important to attend his memorial service at St. Martha’s Catholic Church.

“Just want them to know we care and it makes a difference to us,” said Bean.
