KNOWN FELON ARRESTED AGAIN

On Tuesday, April 7th, 2015 at approximately 7:00pm Cleveland Police Chief Darrel Broussard was patrolling the area of Samuel Wiley Park. Chief Broussard observed Victor Bennett (age 24 of Cleveland) standing near a vehicle and appeared to be holding a weapon. The Cleveland Police Department had received several reports from concerned citizens in regards to Victor Bennett being in possession of a firearm. Victor Bennett was previously arrested on February 27th for a warrant which stemmed from Bennett’s earlier shooting of a local resident.

With this prior knowledge, Chief Broussard exited his unit and approached Bennett as Bennett dropped a black object into the vehicle he was standing next to. Chief Broussard intercepted Bennett as he attempted to walk away from the area, Bennett was then checked for weapons. After finding Bennett did not have a weapon on his person. Chief Broussard released Bennett and focused his investigation on the vehicle Bennett was seen dropping the black object into. Chief Broussard looked into the vehicle after attempts were made to distract his attention. A black in color Glock 45 Caliber handgun that was equipped with a magazine holding 26 rounds of ammunition was located in the floorboard of the vehicle.

A short time later, Victor Bennett was seen leaving the area, as Cleveland PD Officers attempted to stop Bennett, he fled on foot into a wooded area. Area Law Enforcement Agencies assisted with a search of the wooded area, Bennett was later located hiding in an abandoned shed, he was taken into custody without incident.

Chief Broussard advises it took a collective effort of area Law Enforcement, the Cleveland Fire Department and concerned citizens to remove this dangerous felon from our streets.

Victor Bennett was charged with “Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon” 3rd Degree Felony and “Evading Detention with Previous Convictions” State Jail Felony. Victor Bennett was also arrested on a warrant for “Deadly Conduct” Misdemeanor A from a previous incident.
