Last of Vicious Robbery Trio Faces Judge

ROBINSON

Frederick Dewayne Robinson, 20, of Houston pleaded guilty to Aggravated Robbery in the 221st District Court before Judge D’Amico Thursday morning, in exchange for a 30 year sentence.

Prosecutor Rob Freyer said Robinson was the last of three defendants to be sentenced in a five robbery crime spree that began in Houston and ended in Montgomery County, when they robbed a man at gunpoint in the parking lot of 24-Hour Fitness in The Woodlands in October 2013. The trio fled back into Harris County where they crashed their vehicle and were taken into custody.

Freyer said the robberies were “very brutal and violent.”

The other two defendants were Edward Brightmon and Tavaris Coleman. Like Robinson, Brightman pleaded guilty and received a 30 year sentence. Coleman, however, chose a jury trial and was found guilty. Judge Jerry Sandel sentenced him to 45 years.

Freyer said Robinson will have to serve 15 years before he is eligible for parole. He hopes their experience will serve as a warning to other criminals in Harris County.

“They found out the hard way, they got caught up here,” Freyer said. “This office and law enforcement in this community take this very seriously.”

“These groups come up here and inflict violence and terror, for lack of a better word, on good people – people with jobs, people working hard and minding their own business,” he said. “I’m telling you, there’s Hell to pay if you get caught up here, and we can prove it.”
