Overtime patrols began last weekend that will last throughout Spring Break that are specifically designated to enforce impaired driving laws. Drunk driving is the most frequently committed violent crime in our nation. The overtime program is funded by a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation.
Driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.08 and above is illegal. Not only are there deadly consequences for driving drunk, those arrested will be spending their money on bail, court, lawyers and towing fees. Impaired driving is no accident – nor is it a victimless crime.
Always follow these tips for a safer outing:
· Be responsible and don’t risk driving drunk. You will be caught.
· If you plan to drink, choose a designated driver before going out.
· Take a taxicab, or ask a sober friend to drive you home.
· Spend the night where the activity is being held, not in the jail.
· Report impaired drivers to law enforcement.
· Always buckle up – it’s your best defense against an impaired driver.
· Parents, be a good example: Don’t drink and drive and remind children to call if they’re ever in an uncomfortable situation. Teach them never to get into a car with someone who has been drinking.
Don’t drink and drive. It is just that simple!
