LCSO Employee of the Month

Liberty County Sheriff Bobby Rader announced the selection for the December Employee of the Month for the Sheriff’s Office to be 27 year veteran, Sgt. Bubba Pearson of the uniform Patrol Division. This long time employee has excelled in all segments of law enforcement and according to his supervisors, is one of the most compassionate, dedicated and focused supervisors within the agency. His assistance in supervising, encouraging and directing many of the newer deputies is without equal as is seen in his daily steady and even handed method of overseeing his shift and dealing with the general public. One very recent assignment exemplified Sgt. Pearson’s compassion when he volunteered to conduct a well-fare check on a resident who a commercial company had called in regarding their concern for the home owners health and wellbeing. The main concern was the older home owner who lived alone needed food and medical services. Arriving at the home and assisted by the Liberty County EMS team, the somewhat abusive resident made it quite clear that medical services was not needed but food for she and her cats were very much needed. Without hesitation, Pearson went to a local grocery store and bought the resident a large supply of groceries and cat food out of his own pocket returning them to the home owner. This is but one of many such “ above and beyond” responses that Sgt. Pearson has done over his many years with the Sheriff’s Office but is very humble when ask about his reasons for doing these sort of gestures.
Sgt. Pearson graduated from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in September of 1994 while working as a jailer. He later joined the Sheriff’s Office as a full time deputy and, is said,… the rest is history. Over these 27 years of dedicated service he has amassed well over 2,300 hours of various law enforcement related schools dealing primarily with first line supervision but also schools dealing with instructors certification in firearms training and many other topics that he is more than qualified to teach in in-service training classes. While married and with three grown children he can still find time for his favorite hobbies of fishing, hunting and baseball but underlining his hobbies, Pearson still maintains his main goals in law enforcement is when he can help train the younger deputies in safety on the streets and serving the public in a manner expected of them. This professional outlook stands out when he is ask about his most memorable call or case he has worked over these many years. Without hesitation he says that every call or case he works are equally Important to him so it is difficult to separate one call or case that is more memorable than another because each call receives the same degree of concern and importance to him. He quickly adds that one of the reason he wanted to become a peace officer in the first place was his desire to help the “under dog” and this attitude of helping others seems to permeate his outgoing personality that is constantly seen by his supervisors and co-workers.
The Sergeant has high hopes for the future of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office in that he hopes to see, one day, an even larger manpower source to address the growing population within the county and retaining the high standards of ethics and morale that he now sees in the agency. He also expresses his gratitude to Sheriff Rader and all the previous Sheriff’s for retaining him as a member of the Sheriff’s Office. When Sgt. Pearson’s qualifications, demeanor and ethics are taken into consideration, the reason he has been retained by all the former Sheriff’s is very obvious. It is for these reasons that Sheriff Rader ask the public and the members of the Sheriff’s Office to salute a “policeman’s policeman” in the person of Sgt. Bubba Pearson and for being selected as Employee of the Month for December, 2017.
