About 8:30 pm Tuesday a Liberty County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to stop a stolen pickup in the Plum Grove area of Liberty County. The truck accelerated and continued down County Road 3405 in the Bella Vista Subdivision. As he neared the end of the road he turned onto a logging road and continued to flee about one-half mile. He then came upon a washout and the truck went airborne flipping over. The deputy remained behind him as it happened. The male driver fled on foot. As the deputy got to the truck he discovered a female crushed under the truck and deceased. K-9 units were called in and deputies were able to locate the male driver who fled, about 40 yards away in critical condition and up to his shoulders in a canal. He was transported to Kingwood Hospital in critical condition with injuries and slight hypothermia. DPS assisted Liberty County in the crash investigation. Liberty County Precinct 6 Constables assisted with K-9 and locating the suspect. Murder charges are expected on the driver.
