The Liberty County Office of Emergency Management invites all Liberty County residents to attend the 2018 Public Hurricane Preparedness Workshop set for Thursday May 10th at 6 30 pm. This years event will be held at the Dayton Community Center, 801 South Cleveland Street in Dayton.
Speakers from the National Weather Service, the Red Cross, and other agencies, will address issues of importance regarding the 2018 Hurricane Season, which begins on June 1st and ends on November 30th.
We hope to see you at the workshop, as this is a great opportunity to receive information on how you can prepare for the upcoming hurricane season.
The main message from our office is that citizens need to begin preparing now, by stocking up on non-perishable food items of your choice such as spam, vienna sausage, potted meat, chips, crackers, etc…, as well as drinking water, medications, and pet supplies.
It is important to remember that it is likely it will take AT LEAST 72 hours (3 days) after the storm clears our area, for county officials to receive and begin distributing the first shipments of food and water. You MUST be prepared to take care of yourself and your family during that time. (Road clearing and search and rescue are the first things that take place after a storm impacts our area.)
If officials call for an evacuation of our area, please be prepared to leave and if you choose to stay, remember that conditions will be miserable to say the least.
If you need help evacuating please register with the State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry by calling 211 or register online at :
