LIGHTNING STRIKE CAUSES MAJOR HOUSE FIRE IN THE WOODLANDS

At 1248 AM  Sunday morning The Woodlands Fire Department was dispatched to Smokey Oak Road in the Village of Panther Creek for a reported structure fire. Truck 108 was first on the scene and reported heavy fire venting from the roof of a single-story house. Firefighters went to an offensive attack and were able to quickly knock down the bulk of the fire. The occupant of the home had exited prior to our arrival with her dogs. Follow-on crews completed a search of the house locating a cat who had declined to leave with its owner. The fire was declared under control in under 20 minutes. Firefighters then worked on salvage and overhaul confining most of the fire damage to the attic and garage. Fire’s cause was determined to be a lightning strike.
