Help Brandi Grow Bret’s Battalion!
Brandi Welch’s life is devoted to public service, as a dispatcher for the City of Conroe. She has an important role in ensuring people receive the help they need, often at the worst moments of their lives. She’s done so for many years.
Unfortunately, on April 11, Brandi gained some insight nobody would ever want when her 22-year-old son’s vehicle was struck by a wrong-way drunk driver on Hwy 59 in the Humble area. Bret Dabney was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver whose vehicle struck Bret’s was transported by ambulance to an area hospital where she soon died too. Without warning, Brandi’s life changed forever, and she had to begin living the rest of it without her beloved son.
Brandi Welch could easily have shut the world out and turned away from anything that might bring a difficult reminder of her loss and ongoing pain, but she didn’t do that. She returned to work a month after the tragedy. Now, she’s choosing to take her pain and do something positive in memory of Bret, by supporting awareness and other mothers who’ve also suffered the worst possible loss. Brandi joined Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Southeast Texas and she’s participating in a September 28 MADD Southeast Texas fundraising event called “Walk Like MADD” with others who’ll join her as part of “Bret’s Battalion”.
Supporters can also contribute to Brandi’s effort with online donations, and by sharing information about the event on social media.

As many of you know my son Bret Austin Dabney was killed by a drunk driver on April 11, 2024. He was only 22 years old and had a whole life to live. I am doing this to honor him and to support other mom’s that are experiencing this same loss. Please consider joining Bret’s Battalion and walk with us!
I am participating in the 2024 Walk Like MADD Southeast Texas to raise mission critical funds for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to fight the 100 percent preventable crimes of drunk and drugged driving. Did you know that 2 out of 3 people will be impacted by a drunk driving crash in their lifetime? Two out of three! Walk Like MADD provides an outlet for those impacted by drunk and drugged driving to channel their grief into hope and healing and provides communities the chance to surround and support those hurting by taking action to prevent others from suffering. How can YOU help? You can do your part by…
• Making a donation to help me reach my personal fundraising goal
• Walking alongside me to take steps to stop these violent crimes
• Spreading the word about Walk Like MADD by using the hashtag #WalkLikeMADD
Who is MADD? Founded by a mother whose daughter was killed by a drunk driver, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is the nation’s largest nonprofit working to end drunk driving, help fight drugged driving, support the victims of these violent crimes, and prevent underage drinking. MADD supports drunk and drugged driving victims and survivors at no charge through local MADD victim advocates and our 24-Hour Victim Helpline 1-877-MADD-HELP. Learn more at madd.org.
